Isle of Joy

Dan Winslow

Walter Withers is a CIA spy who has come in from the cold. After years as a honey-trap operative in Scandinavia (setting up blackmail traps for Soviet and other agents), he is back home in New York working as a private investigator with New York’s leading security firm. He is assigned to look after up-and-coming Presidential hopeful Senator Jack Flynn, who is serially promiscuous. One of his assignations ends up with his sexy mistress dead. Withers is suspected of the crime. As he fights to prove his innocence, it becomes clear that there’s much more at stake than a crime of passion. Flynn may be over his head, and may be a target for Soviet (or FBI) blackmail… ISLE OF JOY is a magnificent thriller that points a complete (and sometimes bleak) portrait of the USA in the late 50s against a backdrop of the Cold War and anti-communist hysteria…
