Papua New Guinea is on the verge of Independence. Changes are happening everywhere as people prepare themselves to take over the reins of their own government. Lahumpo must face the challenge of his coming initiation, and the new world of the white men. In the villages, people still follow the ways and beliefs of their ancestors. The white men bring machines and new ways, but the spirits of the Masalai are not to be forgotten easily. As these two forces come together in a blossoming nation, the future becomes uncertain.
