With no plan for his future, recent high school graduate Bryan Bradford takes a job at a local pig farm, where he finds himself immersed in a world of casual cruelty toward both humans and animals. Bryan forms a reluctant friendship with the farm owner's son, Justin, whose jocular nature contrasts with the brutalities that Bryan comes to witness not only on the farm but also in Justin's personal life, where he contends with his father's abuse and his sister's manipulation. Bryan struggles with the atrocities that he experiences on the farm, and he allows Justin to shield him from them as much as possible, while simultaneously judging Justin for his involvement in the business. The Farm follows Bryan over the course of a southern summer, as he must navigate the challenges of this unfamiliar world and decide what his part will ultimately be.
