Jeremy Winters, American expat, Paris barman, and doer of "discreet little jobs" for the French security services (the RG) finds the 200th year celebration of the French Revolution a grand nuisance. Others disagree, and tourists 500,000 strong have descended on Paris in the heat of July to fete the city in the streets and squares. It's the largest gathering in the history of the city, and not all of the gatherers are well-intentioned. During, and leading up to, the Bicentennial, Jeremy is assigned such diverse tasks as tracking a cell of passport counterfeiters to keeping an eye on a group of vandals determined to blow the festivities sky high. Are the two cells connected? Jeremy might only determine this through cozying up to an Italian political refugee, Stefania-an expat like himself, only not of her choosing. She leads Jeremy on a chase through Paris whose end he could never have guessed.

About the author: Lisa Mortara is a former language and history teacher. She splits her time between the U.S., the UK and continental Europe. Her first novel is In the Shadow of the Eiffel Tower. Her novels Silver Blades and Snow Blind are books one and two in the Silver Blades series. Paris in Black is a sequel to 1989.
