Michael Weisberg was born in Huntington, West Virginia on March 10th, 1959 to Fred Weisberg. whose valor enabled the Allies to win World War II, and Joan Weisberg, who placed second to Elizabeth Taylor in the 1950 Miss Brooklyn Beauty Pageant. As a child, Michael actually believed both of these stories and many others told to him by his late father who was the world's greatest storyteller.
Michael graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1981 with a major in English literature and a minor in Linguistics and an appreciation for the music of Johnny Cash. His lifelong dream of becoming a physician was realized when he was accepted to Baylor College of Medicine from which he graduated in 1985. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine and then a fellowship in Gastroenterology. Many of the colorful characters and incredible events portrayed in Michael's novels, The Hospitalist and In The End, are based on his experiences and encounters during training.
His first novel, The Hospitalist (2014), was a prescient and humorous thriller about the practice of medicine in modern times. In 2016, Michael gave a Tedx Talk on How the Art of Medicine Became a Business in the 21st Century at the Bomb Factory in Dallas before 800 wildly cheering spectators. His second novel, In The End (2019, ) goes on a search for the meaning to life and deals with critical topics in modern America such as poverty, discrimination, abortion, homosexuality, and the value of a good haircut.
Michael lives only with his wife Sheryl in Dallas, Texas since all three of his children have grown up and moved out. His hobbies include calling his children, learning how to use an iPhone, listening to rock and roll music, and walking his adorable and occasionally obedient dog, Piper.
