Not long after the Dreher Shoals Dam was completed, on August 31, 1929, the reservoir that would become known as Lake Murray in Lexington, South Carolina, began filling, forcing the abandonment of nearly a dozen communities. This left many homesteads, schools, churches, and over two thousand graves underwater, most of which are still there to this day.

Since its formation, the waters of Lake Murray have become known for their exceptional fishing, and over a dozen islands on the lake make it a dream location to go exploring, camping, or simply get away from everyday life for a time. However, with the good comes the bad, including a number of people who have vanished into the depths since the lake was formed, adding to the allure of the lake's mysterious past.

Over the years, people have reported being grabbed or touched by something in the lake, helping to keep alive an old Indian legend that a witch or evil spirit once roamed the Saluda River Valley two hundred years before the lake was formed.

As time moved on, the legend of the Saluda Indian witch slowly faded away, that is ? until the murders began. Detective Amy Stone and her new partner Raylon "Nims" Cross have been tasked with quietly catching a serial killer using the islands of Lake Murray as his dumping ground at the height of tourist season, once again fueling the legend of the Saluda Valley witch.

Things take a sinister turn when the killer takes a member of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, setting off a firestorm detectives trace back to two different people-Beatrice Harrington and none other than her ex-partner, Detective Drew Clayton. Along the way, Detective Amy Stone will finally get the burning question answered she always wanted to know: "Who murdered her father and why?"
