I was going to be a rockstar. It was my dream to tour the world, promoting platinum records at sold out stadiums in front of thousands of screaming fans.

But while chasing that dream, I encountered a series of life-changing events that I could not ignore, and an improbable new dream emerged... medicine.

So, I put down my drumsticks and grabbed a stethoscope to begin the unlikeliest of pursuits-completing a physician assistant degree, one of the most rigorous medical programs in the country.

Armed with a microcassette recorder, I was determined to capture a comprehensive account of my training and most personal moments. These audio journals would chronicle how I learned to help and heal others, while struggling to hold on to my sense of self-and sanity.

Praise for From Music to Medicine:

"Heartfelt, vulnerable, and accurate . . . a must read for anyone contemplating a career in healthcare."

  • P. Levesque, CSM, US Army (retired)

"This book is everything I wanted to know while I considered entering the medical field. Shawn tells his emotional and powerful story as though you are sitting alongside him."

  • C. Labonte, EMT, Medical Microbiologist

"The credible and engrossing narrative as he endures his rotations is what makes this memoir shine."

  • J. Abbott, Licensing Examiner

"Only pages apart, some of his scenes left me shocked, while others had me laughing or crying."

-J. Velevis, Business Development Representative

"Encountering the extremes of human nature, Roussin colorfully paints stories of his frustrations, triumphs, insecurities, and self-preservation tactics that can be applied to anyone's personal or professional development."

  • D. Davis, Quality Manager (retired)
