Navy veteran Alan Larry McCall (PN-3) served aboard the USS Midway in 1965 during its first combat deployment in the South China Sea during the Vietnam War.

Several years ago, McCall traveled to Washington, DC with a group of fellow Vietnam Veterans to visit the Vietnam Memorial. That trip brought back a lot of memories, triggering questions that had gone unanswered for several decades.

He started researching, looking for answers. Now, at age 87, he's written this book - the first-ever personal account of the inaugural combat deployment of the USS Midway. McCall thoughtfully considers this contentious period in US history, and shares what it was like to sail into danger aboard the Midway during the Vietnam War. Also included is a tribute to the servicemen whose lives were lost during that deployment.
