Ashley Barnes is an only child to a single mother and has been the adult in the house for as long as she can remember. Ashley is spending the summer in New York with her aunt to decide what to do with her future while all her friends prepare for college in the fall. Cage Davis, co-captain of his high school football team, is spending the summer working for his father while he prepares for college in the fall where he will also play football. Everything seems to be working out exactly how he'd imagined until Ashley Barnes tells him she's leaving for the summer. Suddenly, overwhelmed with emotion, he realizes that he has feelings for her and now she's leaving. On the day Ashley's leaving for the summer, Cage tells her how much he's going to miss her and they share a kiss. With no time to change her plans, Ashley must leave with only a promise to stay in touch. Cage can only stand there and watch her taxi drive away. Keeping in touch proves difficult from the start. While Ashley gets settled, she meets someone new-Liam. When she decides to give Liam a chance, she gets a call from a friend telling her of a terrible accident Cage has been involved in and her feelings for him come rushing back. This changes everything! Should Ashley cut her visit short and go back home to her narcissistic mother so she can be with Cage, or should she stay in New York and hope Cage waits for her?
