Grand Inquisitor Moirne Koval's gut is growling ever louder at her, and she's still not exactly sure why. The threads of several potential plots against the Kingdom of Perizidon seem to be getting closer to combining into an overall tapestry of deceit and death. But it's difficult to decipher the clues when you're not exactly sure of the mystery you're trying to solve.

Agents of the abyss seemingly wander the Wilds at will, bandits are harassing trade and travelers along the river, and a neighboring kingdom may invade Perizidon at any moment. The inquisitor thinks she knows what to focus on, but perhaps the trail forward is not as clear as it appears.

At the same time, Princess Lianne Kalchik embarks upon a diplomatic mission in search of answers to some of her own questions. Gaining a potential ally, before the war clouds on the horizon get any closer, would be a nice benefit, as well.

Winter may be coming, but the kingdom remains hot with intrigue in this second book of the Perizidon series.
