What might the parables of Jesus have sounded like if he had told them in 21st century America?

Using methods similar to Jesus, this book re-imagines the biblical parables as modern short stories that take place in everyday settings and situations - a man in a bar who can't let go of his runaway fiancee', the birthday party of a spoiled twelve year old girl, hillbillies hunting and fishing. While each parable receives a considerable makeover, the central meanings are not lost but reinforced and sharpened for modern ears.
