Growing up in New Orleans, basketball became my escape from the challenges and struggles of my childhood. As a young teenager, I quickly became known around my neighborhood as a basketball star. I was dedicated to the game and devoted much of it, practicing tirelessly to perfect my skills. Despite my love for basketball, rcouldn't shake off the allure of the street life. Growing up in a community where drug dealing, gang violence, and crime were the norm, I found myself drawn to the dangers of the streets. I found solace in the acceptance I received from the guys in the hood who idolized me for my basketball skills but also encouraged me to indulge in the street life. 'AtlantaBefore I knew it, basketball was no longer my priority, and my commitment to the game began to dwindle I got involved in a dirty game, dealing drugs, and taking partaking in gang-related activities. One night, I was caught in the act and arrested. I was only eighteen years old at the time and had no idea how the events of that night would change my life forever. I was sentenced to five years in prison. It was the lowest point of my life; wasted my talents in the hood and ended up in jail for a crime I deeply regretted. While I was in prison, I was consumed with regret for the choices I made that landed me behind bars. But, I also realized that I had the opportunity to turn my life around and start over once I was released from prison. During my stay in prison, I felt a remorse for the way I had let down my loved ones and especially squandering the God-given talent that had brought me so much joy and hope.
