Journey Into Discipleship is volume two in a series of books to help people grow up in Christ. Keep in mind that this work was intended to be used for those who have already become a Christian and who now want to know more about the God-Man relationship and what you can do to avoid sin. It also addresses how you can ultimately become a more mature spiritual person and hopefully become a disciple-maker. The focus is building your Christianity from the very beginning and then helping you grow and mature into a disciple who can truly help others. Several important topics are addressed that lead you towards greater spiritual maturity and also provide you knowledge that will help you deal with darkness in your daily life. Part One addresses the need we have to understand and know God. As you develop a better understanding of God, it should give you a greater desire to follow His will so that we can live a Godly life.
Part Two addresses faith. You must have faith to even become a Christian. However, there are levels of faith. It is up to you to learn how to grow into a deeper faith. The Godliest Disciples I know have grown to have deep faith in their relationship with God.
Part Three specifically addresses spiritual growth which is vital in discipleship. All those who become Christians should want to grow spiritually. God provides a blueprint that will help you accomplish this. He also provides a helper in the form of the Holy Spirit who will also aid you in your spiritual growth.
Part Four addresses information about the Holy Spirit, who he is and his role in helping the Christian.
Part Five looks at four key elements to a balanced Christian life: 1) prayer, 2) knowing God's Word, 3) outreach, evangelism and gifts, and 4) fellowship. Without proper balance your spiritual growth can be minimized.
Part Six looks at applied discipleship. The ability to be a disciple is not always immediately apparent when someone becomes a Christian. Sometimes it is important for that person to understand some of the basic doctrines and principles about how to live a Christian life and start applying them.
When you have finished working through this book you will have taken a fresh look at your Christianity, the God-Man relationship involved, the problems you face as a Christian, the helps you have available to get you through inevitable conflict and the security you have for eternal life.
