Obadiah (Obie) Gainsworthy enjoys a tranquil lifestyle with his wife, son, and daughter in the little Adirondack village of Stafford Rest. He struggles, however, with indecision about whether to continue full-time writing or accept the pastorate of Stafford Rest Methodist Church-until he is challenged by a respected peer to "pick up" his cross. But answering that call means taking on a role for which he feels inadequate. It also means dealing with disaffected members who will want him gone.
