Gecko is a quiet and timid creature. His fear puts him in a perilous position. He will be forced to face his fear and challenged to trust Robot, the reason for Gecko’s fear in the first place. This book highlights the importance of challenging preconceived notions and implicit bias and makes the argument that we are stronger and better together. Reviews:
What an AMAZING book! In a simple and child-friendly manner, it addresses important issues around implicit bias in a time when this could not be more relevant. After reading it the first time through and wondering how much he was understanding, I asked my 6-year-old son what the book was all about. He stated plainly, the lizard [gecko] was afraid of of the robot because he was different, but the robot wasn’t scary; he was nice. From there, this book was helpful in sparking a wonderful conversation about diversity and the importance of recognizing our biases and privilege. Abstract concepts like these can be difficult to tackle with young children, yet the author and illustrator found a way to do so simply, with captivating text and colorful pictures to boot. I wholeheartedly recommended this book and plan to read it again and again with my son as the years go on. This one is child psychologist approved for sure!

Gecko and Robot is a fun book, with likable characters and a great message. The illustrations are big and bright and the rhymes are fun. The vocabulary is full of opportunities to learn interesting new words too!
I have two young boys and they both loved this book. The fun illustrations, rhyming and theme of the story are wonderful. This is a book that you can read over and over again as a child grows because, developmentally, they will get some thing new out of it again and again. Great vocabulary and metaphor of letting go of fear/unknown.
My 3 boys loved the book. My 2-year-old loved the illustrations, my 3-year-old was nervous for gecko, and my 7-year-old was trying to clap out the music robot was playing. And I enjoyed the message in the book about trust and befriending those different than us.
A beautifully written and illustrated book! This is a great story that shows that while we all have that fear of the unknown, we might be missing out an a great opportunity if we don’t let go of the fear.
My daughter loves the story line and we love that there is a fantastic lesson to learn. Fantastic!
My son loved this book and reads it everyday! Such a great story!
