Three Rose Buds follows the dreams of three people, whose lives intersect on a farm in Texas, around the time of the American Civil War: an aged slave woman, bound to a kitchen, dreams of reading books out in the open; an ailing slave owner, bound to his inherited way of life, dreams of being free from the business of cotton and slavery; and the adolescent boy, sold into slavery, dares the dream of writing of his life as a slave on a farm where a patch of roses grows.

Three Rose Buds is the story of a boy, left with nothing to live for, who discovers what he is willing to die for.
