"Deadly Obsessions" follows the lives of two families: the Cartlands, from a small village in Cambridgeshire, and the Marshalls, an old wealthy family from Sussex. The story spans three books and three generations throughout much of the twentieth century. This is the first book, titled "The Seduction of Speed."
Frank Cartland and George Marshall were born at the beginning of the motoring age. However, their backgrounds are vastly different. Frank grows up in a humble village in Cambridgeshire, while George is born into the affluent Marshall family, which can trace its lineage back to Sir William Marshall. The Great War left deep scars on both families, profoundly impacting the futures of Frank and George.
Both Frank and George become obsessed with speed, a passion that takes a heavy toll on their mental and physical well-being. As the 1920s and 1930s unfold, their addiction leads them down dangerous paths, both on and off the racetracks of Le Mans and Brooklands. Their lives, complicated by the presence of beautiful and influential women, are marred by unforeseen and tragic consequences, casting a long shadow over future generations.
