Deadly Obsessions

Deadly Obsessions follows the lives of two families: the Cartlands, from a small village in Cambridgeshire, and the Marshalls, an old wealthy family from Sussex. The story spans three books and three generations throughout much of the twentieth century. This is book one, The Seduction of Speed. Frank Cartland and George Marshall were born at the dawn of the motoring age. However, their backgrounds couldn't be more different. Frank grows up in a humble village in Cambridgeshire, while George is born into the affluent Marshall family, which can trace its ancestry back one thousand years to Sir William Marshall. The Great War left deep scars on both families and impacted Frank and George's futures. Frank and George were consumed by an obsession with speed, a passion that exacted a heavy toll on their mental and physical well-being. As the 1920s and 30s unfolded, their addiction led them down dangerous paths, both on and off the racetracks of Le Mans and Brooklands. Their lives, already complicated by the presence of beautiful and influential women, would be marred by unforeseen and tragic consequences, casting a long shadow over future generations.
