A Passage to India by E. M. Forster is a novel set in colonial India during the British Raj. It explores the strained relationships between the British colonizers and the Indian population.

The story follows Dr. Aziz, a young Indian physician, who befriends two visiting Englishwomen, Mrs. Moore and Adela Quested, as well as the liberal schoolmaster Cyril Fielding. Tensions rise when Adela, during a trip to the Marabar Caves, believes Aziz has assaulted her. Though the accusation is later withdrawn, the event deepens mistrust and widens the cultural divide between Indians and the British.

Through its characters and setting, the novel examines themes of colonialism, racial prejudice, friendship, and the difficulty of true understanding across cultural boundaries.
