A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs is a science fiction adventure novel about John Carter, a Confederate veteran who mysteriously finds himself transported to Mars (called Barsoom), where he gains superhuman strength due to the planet's lower gravity.

On Mars, Carter becomes embroiled in the conflicts between its various inhabitants, including the fierce Green Martians and the more human-like Red Martians. He falls in love with Dejah Thoris, a Red Martian princess, and fights to protect her and unite the planet's warring factions.
