About the Author

Dr. Franklin F. Sands was born in Coconut Grove in Miami, Florida to Edith and Ernest Sands. Ernest and his father Nathan were early pioneers who had their homes built on the same plot of land and were very close friends with their employer Dr. and Mrs. David Fairchild. Dr. Fairchild encouraged Nathan to send Ernest to study Botany, resulting in the Fairchild's home estate transforming into the Dade County Fairchild Tropical Gardens. Sands is the first black Ph.D. graduate from the Dept. of Educational Research at Florida State University. Later, he was a principal technical advisor to the Korean Educational Development Institute which designed, developed, and revamped the Republic of South Korea's Elementary, Middle, and Advanced school system.
