James Snider decided to take his family out west in order to take advantage of a land give-a-away program. His only obstacle was his wife, Alice. Reluctant to leave, she agreed and the family joined with a wagon train which had stopped in Chatom, Alabama. The pilgrims were excited about what the future would hold. What it held were constant attacks by a renegade veteran of the War of Northern Aggression, Sgt. John McClemmey. He and his gang of thugs killed several on the wagon train and raped a 10-year old girl named Annie Rantsom. Eventually, Jimmy Snider would come to marry her and settle in Humble, Texas. Mentored by the sheriff, when Jimmy reached a good age, he was made deputy sheriff. His courage and love for justice got the notice of the Governor of Texas who got word to Jimmy that he would like to speak with him. In the Governor's office, he was offered the opportunity to be a Texas Ranger. He accepted the badge and his first assignment-capture Sgt. John McClemmey and his gang dead or alive. Following this assignment, he returned to Humble and his deputy sheriff responsibilities. Once again, the Governor sent for Jimmy. This assignment would take him to Tyler, Texas, confronting a deranged preacher who considered himself the son of god whose ministry was to rob, rape, and murder unbelievers. Those who he robbed were told they were contributing to his ministry. Those who he raped were being cleansed. Those who he murdered deserved it. This was by far Jimmy's most challenging assignment because he had to outsmart a crazy lunatic of a man.
