Although their time in Vietnam left them scarred, life for the cousins, Kevin McClure and Lou Aguilar, seemed to improve daily - at least on the surface. Smooth sailing.

Kevin-with financial help from the Grandfathers-built the dream house he'd designed for Molly, and to the delight of his family, declared that engineering and architectural degrees might be in his future. But until such classes might start, in his summer job as manager of Rocky Creek Camp, he was training his brother Rob and Lou's younger brothers, both deaf and hearing as counselors. Molly finished her degree, taught at the Academy all day, and-in her free time-helped decorate the new house, with special attention to a small room, as yet unfilled, that might be needed soon.

And Lou, wild photographer and artist, cousin and best friend, whom Kevin thought might never settle down, was getting married.

But life is seldom smooth. There were bad times ahead, with secrets, mysteries, and unseen wounds to heal.
