As the story begins, our first congressmen gather in Philadelphia to discuss the problems with the crown and eventually set up a government. Philadelphia is a lavish modern city of the day; they are greeted with luxurious surroundings, fine dining, and brick streets. Later, they are forced to leave when Britain occupies the city. Fleeing to Yorktown, a frontier drop-off point for wagons going west with mud streets and all luxury gone. With them, they've brought the signed declaration and the liberty bell in tow. The book is written in a journal style, going through the high points of debating and setting up government, all the while dealing with the war outside their front doors. This book draws on historical knowledge and letters written by the congressmen and uses their own words to tell the story. Join me as we walk the historic streets, listen to the debates, and hear the biographical sketches that they wrote which are incorporated into the story.
