Mike the Dragon is not like the other dragons. He cannot breathe fire like all the other dragons. Instead, he breathes bubbles. The other dragons only have one color, but Mike's scales are a rainbow of colors. The other dragons never smile, but Mike smiles all the time. No matter what the others may say, Mike is happy the way he is. He begins to change the hearts of the dragons and show them that no matter who you are, our differences just make us more special.

Mike the Dragon was written with autistic children in mind but is relevant for all children. It gives a voice to the differences between us in hopes of affirming the fact that it's ok to be different. A picture painted with many colors is more vibrant than a picture only painted with one color and being the best version of ourselves makes us powerful.

About the Author

Norman James Comer is a registered behavioral technician working with autistic children full-time. He has had many careers in his life. Besides working in the field of autism, Norman is most proud of rebuilding steam locomotives for 25 years. His most constant job has been his writing. Comer is left-handed and has autism himself. As a child, he stuttered severely and was not able to communicate well. With the help of speech therapists and his loving family, he was able to overcome many of his struggles. He sees himself in the children he works with. Now that he's older, he hopes to be a positive change for those who struggle with being different so that they can be proud of who they are.
