In 1975, 24 year old architecture graduate, Brad Perkins, hit the road to experience the world. He had saved a couple grand planting trees in forests of the Pacific Northwest, freed himself from all ties, including his longtime girlfriend, and headed east with little more than his hitchhiking thumb, knapsack, journal, and OM-1 camera.
Brad, a true vagabond, answered the call of the open road without schedules, phone or care for time to keep him from enjoying new opportunities. Hitchhiking on the side of the road, sometimes for long spells without a ride, was always suddenly changed by the flash of brake lights shooting adrenalin through his veins as the next loving spirit stopped to offer a helping hand.
The world was what he made of it for ten months of amazing adventures by trusting his gut and exchanging goodwill beyond language barriers with hundreds of people that he was fortunate to meet for a moment of time and space on the open road.
