THE DEADLY COMBO
Dandy Mullens was one of the jazz greats, he and his golden horn. But that was years ago. Now Dandy lies dead in an alley, just an unkempt old man, knifed for his golden trumpet. Mac Stewart is a lover of jazz himself, and knows the scene. He's also a cop. And he makes it his mission to find out who murdered Dandy. His search takes him to all the dark little jazz clubs and strip joints in the city, even some of the high class clubs. All he knows is that he is looking for a tall, good-looking, wiry man who'd been seen with a female friend of Dandy's. Someone had obviously told the man about the golden horn, and greed had gotten the better of him. Or could it be as simple as that?
ONE FOR MY DAME
Rick Jackson has turned his back on humanity, and is quite content to run a small pet store. His best friends consist of a great Dane, a mynah bird and a spider monkey. Then he meets Carla. He stops off for a drink at his local bar, they strike up a conversation and she ends up back at his apartment. She's pretty drunk and the visit is all-too brief. Rick puts her in a taxi, contentedly uninvolved. The next morning he finds that his mystery woman has disappeared. And since he was the last one to see her, the cops are interested. And later a sexy blonde named Marty stops by-with a gun. Carla has hidden something in his apartment, and Rick has no idea what is it, nor where it is ... but somebody really wants it.
