Detective Stanley Deutsch stumbles into a dark-web criminal 'entertainment' known as 'the game.' In this game, a young, defenseless woman gets two hours to disappear before two professional assassins set out to find and kill her. If she survives 48 hours, she collects $100,000. If she doesn't, the winning assassin gets the reward. Stanley rescues the woman and vanishes with her, infuriating the game's sponsor. He's a sadistic recluse nicknamed 'Mr. Cruel.'
