This is a mid 18th century French version of the well known allegorical story of the Little Peasant or Lesser Countryman, issued in German in 1731 a decade or so earlier. Here the seeker of the Philosophers' Stone is instructed by a peasant he meets while out walking. Much of the account focusses on the red and a white flower. This French version was issued in the alchemical compendium Bibliotheque des philosophes chimiques, 1740-54. Translated by Adam McLean.
