Blue Lights and Butterflies

Marcus Aurelius

This is a small journey into my life working for the London Emergency Ambulance Service. This was a very emotional release for me, something that I now understand, I will never be free from. My story is sometimes funny, it is extremely sad in places, and very harrowing in other parts. I still shed tears when I think back on some of the incidents, but that's life, and something I will have to live with. This story...my story, is real. Real life. murder, rape, sexual assault, hangings, and one unders, they were all in the mix. We were all things, to all people, packaged, and moulded, into a crisp new uniform. A social worker, a counsellor, a mediator, a life saver, a listener, and sometimes a tea maker. One thing is certain....... its not Casualty or any other emergency medical TV show. The pain, heartache, and the trauma is not for the faint hearted. The tears shed, could sink a battleship. This is real life, Full of real incidents, with real people, in real places. I dare you not to be moved. WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID; Your material is hard hitting and visceral, and gives a very visual, and harrowing in places, account of life at the frontline of the London Ambulance service. In addition the illustrations and poetry add a different perspective and dimension to the narrative, which makes it unusual and interesting.

Some of your descriptions are extremely graphic and sometimes harrowing, although sometimes hard to read, it all adds to the immediacy and rawness of your text, which is very effective.
