With over twenty-four years of experience, I have conducted over two thousand sessions related to substance abuse, domestic violence, family issues, post-traumatic stress disorder, grief, suicide, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, anger, relapse prevention, and more.
I have worked with diverse populations, including the homeless, addicts, and individuals with other significant mental health problems. Through this experience, I have gained insight into real-life struggles, understanding the origins of these struggles, and why people often give up hope and see failure, pain, dependency, or even death as their only option.
Recovery from mental health and addiction problems fails when we refuse to put into practice practical coping skills and overlook the impact of faith and spirituality. Recovery is not for those who know what to do but for those willing to act.
I grew up in a large family with a single mother and seven siblings. Despite challenging circumstances, we did the best we could. I live in a suburban town where, together with my wife of thirty-five years, we raised two beautiful daughters.
I hold an associate's degree in mechanical/architectural drafting, a bachelor's degree in biblical science, a master's degree in sociology, and a master's degree in addiction counseling. I enjoy hiking, traveling, exercising, and spending time with my family.
I am writing this book because I am passionate about helping people who have faced similar experiences. With over twenty-four years of experience in the mental health and addiction field, I have witnessed the devastation these issues can bring to individuals and families. I have also seen people recover and go on to lead healthy, fulfilling lives. Helping others improve their lives is a privilege I deeply cherish.
