I was on Christmas leave from the US Army in December of 1967, homeward bound on Highway 5, at the top of the Grapevine near Gorman, California. In uniform, squared away, eyes front, shotgun seat next to the bus driver in the window seat. Something tapped my right shoulder in the spirit. I looked to the right. About a quarter of a mile from me, I saw the risen Christ Jesus standing in the sky. He was nine stories tall. He was like the description in Revelation 1:1, "The Risen glory is Christ that John saw." He beckoned to me with His right hand. A window opened next to Him, and I saw a glimpse of the new Heaven and the new Earth. A still, small voice asked me, "Do you remember His promises? ... Don't be dismayed. You believe in God. Believe in me for in my Father's house are many mansions if it were not so I would have told you." I want you to know that, Jesus also promises all who believe in Him that where He is there we will be also. Then He said to me in that vision, "I am with you always even to the end of the age." I invite you on a journey of following Jesus in this book and learning how to stay close to Him.
Stephen Brown was born May 1946 in Los Angeles, when his father returned from service in the Navy, during World War II. His family attended church every Sunday, and his faith began to grow. When Stephen was in the 3rd grade, he began to personalize his relationship with the Lord.
In the sixth grade, his teacher met with him and his parents. Her parting comment was "Steve must write!" A degree in English literature from UCLA was the result. While at UCLA, Stephen was told he had been drafted into the Army. This book picks up at the time he had just finished basic training, and was put on a bus, to spend Christmas leave with his parents.
