A very entertaining and humerous story What begins as a surprise birthday party for a longtime friend turns into a bi-weekly luncheon event by nine men in their early eighties. They have known each other since they served together in the military over sixty years ago. The group soon grows to twelve and all are eagerly awaiting to attend and enjoy their friendship and cameradery. It takes place in a restaurant called Bubba Bar and Grill in a city in North San Diego County where head waitress Hazel Nutt serves them to their delight in a firm but friendly way. The men are, of course, all retired but had various professional careers. The organizer is Lou Pohles, CPA. His friends are Warren Peace, Marine Lieutenant Colonel, physician Les Payne, barber Dan Druff, teacher Sid Still, architect Otto Graf, psychiatrist Adam Zapel, funeral director Phil Graves, landscaper Lon Moore, veterinarian Don Keys, chef Chris Bacon and Ben Dover, physical therapist. They eventually agree to name themselves R.O.M.E.O., an acronym meaning Real Old Men Eating Out. With time, they add a special feature to their meetings in that they all bring and share a joke and after voting on them, the winner will get a free lunch. The competition among them is funny and should be enjoyed by the reader.
