HORSEFEATHERS EXPLAINED: Other than the obvious namesake of this book, more importantly and contextually, it was a Boomer’s expression of disbelief or skepticism- equivalent to the so-called modern version of B/S. Otherwise, in a lesser, more tactful manner, the expression was merely a suggestion of one’s disagreement, more subtly expressed as: you don’t say. However, in the spirit of this telling and consistent portrayals in both versions of Horsefeathers, a Boomer’s response of horsefeathers was tantamount to a declaration of nonsense.
Apologetically and admittedly so, many of the accounts included herein have been intentionally embellished to reflect the bias and an irrepressible sense of off-handed sardonic whimsy of the author. And, providing that there are still some of us (Boomers) … still above ground. The less jaded truth in favor of historical accuracy may yet need to be told- although possibly just better recalled in the memory of others. Nevertheless, as many a Boomers can attest to, the assertion that much of what we experienced in our time was possibly not as facile as portrayed in this writing nor altogether necessary.
