After I turned 65 years old and was still a university professor, people--colleagues, friends, relatives, and even mere acquaintances--were making it their primary business to query me about when I was going to retire. At lunch at a restaurant, a friend "leaned in" to ask me this question that apparently was bothering her. That "leaning in" led me to think of how urgent my answer must be to some, but how much more I thought of it as my own business. This novella mixes cynicism, sarcasm, satire and humor to arrive at an answer to when I plan to retire. Through the humor shines some serious issues for potential retirees to consider before turning in that carefully or not so carefully (who cares at that time if verbs are green, nouns vague, adjectives shady) worded final letter.
