This book provides Bible studies on selected passages of the Old Testament that show that Jesus is the Messiah predicted by the prophets. It also focuses on the covenants or promises of God. Christians tend to study the New Testament more often than the Old Testament books of the Bible. This is no doubt because Jesus is revealed as the long awaited Messiah and God in human flesh. However, there is much more to the story of Jesus that is revealed in the Old Testament books. Some Christians consider the Old Testament books to be mainly of historical interest. However, they are much more important than this. These books complete the story of Jesus and provide important insights into the nature of God and his plans. Jesus is called the Word of God and his words recorded in the inspired books of the Bible are eternal and not trivial. Some people attempt to trivialize or nullify portions of the Old Testament by saying that they are outdated thoughts of the authors who lived in cultures different from today. These people would argue that the Bible needs to fit into the cultural norms of today. Jesus said that his words reveal eternal truths. (Jn 14:6) The Bible represents his words given to mankind. Jesus said that he did not come to abolish the Old Testament but to fulfill it. (Mt 5:17) The words of Jesus are powerful and eternal and none of his words would change or disappear. (Mt 24:35)
