Justin Jacobs is a recent college graduate, trying to understand a young girl's recurring nightmares. His only clue to the origin of the dreams is a collectible trinket from a diner 350 miles away, that haunts anyone who comes in contact. Justin searches for answers while fighting demons from his own past, and attempts to save Beka from her abusive father, which only makes things worse for Beka, and could have tragic results for everyone. Beka, her father, and Justin fight for their lives when evil returns and confronts them face-to-face in the fiery conclusion.

This story picks up ten years after a terrible tragedy in the small town of Downey. A small diner had exploded and claimed the lives of an entire family. Only a local priest understands the evil that was actually behind the explosion.

Justin, abused as a child by his alcoholic father until his father abandoned them when he was 8 years old, is now 27. And after having spent eight years away from home, he returns to his small hometown as a licensed family therapist. Beka is an eleven-year-old girl, sweet but socially backward, abused herself, who is experiencing terrible nightmares and other strange occurrences. Justin and Beka are brought together and form an instant bond.

The story of Justin Jacobs overcoming the demons of his past to help Beka, is touching. But they have no way of knowing that they are but pawns in the much bigger game of good vs evil taking place all around them. As a favor for the foster mother who raised him, he agrees to help Beka, who is having terrible nightmares involving fire. Justin becomes obsessed with finding, not only the reason for her nightmares, but who Beka really is. Is it possible that she was kidnapped as an infant? Could she be the only survivor from a terrible tragedy 10 years earlier? And what about her parents? Are they imposters? Is Beka being held against her will, and the victim of abuse? Can Justin overcome the demons in his own life to find out? And will Justin allow himself to be loved?
