The Preposterous Platypus Club Murders

James Elliott

It wasn't the murders themselves that were preposterous; it was the club itself, and its members. I do have to admit however, the murders were quite strange, and more than a little ingenious... The violent deaths occurred some time ago, here at the beach. The press dubbed them the Platypus Club Murders, because the club was the only apparent tie between all the victims and the murderer.... The credit for "The Preposterous Platypus Murders" goes entirely to my father - the manuscript collected dust on my bookshelf for 29 years until I finally put it into electronic format. Yes - it was written in 1985 on a typewriter... My father passed away the year he finished the book - he did make a few unsuccessful attempts to get published before he died. The book is filled with my father's love of puns, good food, good drink and a very clever tale (in my biased opinion). I did make a few attempts over the years to work on the book, but always got bogged down after a few pages. Apparently, I just wasn't ready - I'm not going to psychoanalyze myself for the reasons why, but I do know that I finally felt a compelling need to fulfill his dream of getting the book published - thanks to the marvel of the digital age and electronic publishing, I have done so. I wish he had lived to see the amazing changes in our technology, but suspect he still would have used his typewriter. I hope you enjoy the book - it is unlike any murder mystery I have read and is a little glimpse into culture of the mid-eighties, filled with obscure references and words.
