My real story is about how my seemingly mainstream life -- rising from a small-town background to high-tech finance in New York and Silicon Valley -- was upended by a mysterious call to "Go to Tibet." After relentless work, near-death experiences, and an unshakable sense of unease, a chance encounter with a "random" messenger warned me that unless I soon found a certain monk with "shining eyes," that Death would find me first. What began as an unusual search turned into over a five year journey of profound learnings as his last Student, where I was confronted with the Self-Cherishing Ego which forever changed my life and reframed my understanding of suffering or Samsara, adversity, ambition and transforming it into healing, inner calm, and joy in life.
