Almost 10 years ago we published the book 'The lost kata of Judo', in its pages we described several kata that are in disuse nowadays or are taught very little. In one of the chapters of this book we analysed the kime shiki, but without going into depth, the aim was simply to make it known. We always intended to make a complete monographic study and publish it in several languages, but due to time constraints it was not possible until now that it has finally become a reality, this study of the Kime shiki is the first one published specifically of this kata in the world, at least outside Japan. After rigorously studying and perfecting this kata in various schools in Japan, including privately at the Kodokan, we can affirm that we have provided all the technical details necessary to be able to practise it as it was practised in Japan approximately 100 years ago. The Kime Shiki is a kata that Jigoro Kano constantly advised, apparently it is a simple kata, but it hides a multitude of hidden details. Everything in the Kime shiki is elegant: the reiho, the rhythm, the protocol with the weapons, the movements, etc. We advise all Judokas who love the tradition to study Kime Shiki carefully, it will bring them enormous benefits, not only in terms of self-defence but also to understand classical Judo better.
