Unveil the chilling tale of Mariam Soulakiotis, a Greek Orthodox abbess whose life blurred the line between sanctity and savagery. Born Marina Soulakiotou in Keratea, Greece, she rose to prominence as the abbess of the Panagia Pefkovounogiatrissa Monastery. However, beneath her religious facade, she orchestrated a reign of terror that led to her being dubbed "Mother Rasputin" by the media.
Between 1939 and her arrest in 1950, Soulakiotis was implicated in numerous heinous acts, including the manipulation and embezzlement of dowries from wealthy women who joined her convent. Her alleged crimes escalated to murder, with estimates of her victims ranging from 27 to over 150. Despite her conviction and death in prison in 1954, her legacy endures, with some followers venerating her as a martyr.
