The eleventh story in the Chosen to Serve series is a lesson Jimmy learns the hard way. Set forth as the prequel to all the other stories, this is the account of his wife's death. As Samantha dies, over a period of several months from cancer, Jimmy fights the battles we all fight in such circumstances: denial, determination, confusion, and anger.
All of which are as normal as waking up in the morning. We all paddle the same boat, as Jimmy says. Where many of us go different ways is in how we make peace with all of it. Many of us never do. Others may turn to anything that may dull the pain for a while.
Fewer will bow before the only One who understands the feelings of our infirmities, thereby finding the only peace to be had with it.
It can never be found by reasoning, but it can't be found without it, either. It is not a question of intellectual pursuit. It is entirely a spiritual matter and can only be answered by spiritual means. Eventually, through suffering for love, Jimmy finds his peace.
