China's rise in the 21st century has reshaped the global order-politically, economically, and technologically. My interest in this transformation grew out of years of observing and researching how power is shifting away from traditional Western centers to emerging actors across the Global South. This book is the result of that inquiry.
As someone deeply engaged in international affairs and development studies, I have long been fascinated by China's unique development model-its evolution from a primarily agrarian economy to a leading global power. Through this book, I aim to explore how China's domestic reforms, foreign policy initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative, and technological advancements are redefining the world's geopolitical landscape.
Equally important is China's growing engagement with the Global South-Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia-and its commitment to reshaping institutions and alliances, such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. I believe this story cannot be fully understood without examining the broader shifts in global power, diplomacy, and economic integration that this engagement reflects.
This book is written for scholars, students, policymakers, and curious readers who want to understand China's role in the evolving global order. I hope it offers useful insights into not just China's rise, but also the opportunities and challenges facing the world as power moves beyond the West.
