Upon seeing his small one room house, Li Mei asks if Matthew has a wife and he says that the town has no African American women he could marry. Li Mei is in the similar situation as there's no Chinese men for her to marry. Li Mei offers a solution proposing they marry. Matthew is hesitant until Li Mei seduces him. After a steamy encounter with her, he's infatuated with her, and their marriage blossoms into multiple scenes of passion and love.
