Daniel Chesterfield is a 6'7" foul mouthed straight arrow with a trite sense of humor and deep love and respect for law, order, and justice. Trading in his detective shield in Palm Beach County, Florida for a Sheriff's badge in the rural town of Cowbell, Montana, he assumes the responsibility of overhauling the ill-reputed Bear Creek County Sheriff's Office Sub-Station. A preliminary examination of the body suggests that Emma Cooper's death was the result of a grizzly attack; however, forensic analyses concludes that not only was her death a homicide, but that she'd given birth only minutes before her demise, yet no infant was found at the scene.
When Chesterfield visits Flying Aces Ranch to deliver the news to Harrison Cooper about the death of his daughter and disappearance of his grandson, he inadvertently stumbles upon a second crime that's being committed against him. Is the person who's trying to kill Harrison Cooper the same person who murdered his daughter and stole her newborn son? Are the two crimes coincidental or are they connected? Chesterfield's investigation will lead him to multiple suspects, but only one of them is guilty of murder, and the culprit is closer to Chesterfield than he could've ever imagined.
