HUNTER South African Brixton Murder and Robbery Unit detective Morgan Hunter, martial arts expert and cage fighter, fighting under the name "The Mighty Midget" and detectives Frans Botha and Piet Venter are investigating the murder of prominent black South African businessman Doctor Solomon Mokoena. Unbeknown to Morgan, Detectives Frans Botha and Piet Venter had been hired by the head of the vast conglomerate, Bester Industries, Willem Bester and his two sons Jan and Koos. Their task was to murder Doctor Mokoena, whose intention is to destroy Bester Industries, an illegitimate conglomerate. Morgan, Frans and Piet are under a great deal of pressure to solve the case and an altercation takes place between Morgan and his two colleagues over the use of force during the investigation. When Morgan is called out of the interrogation cell to answer a telephone call, Frans and Piet successfully frame Morgan with the murder of the suspect Isaac Bakwena and is jailed for 20 years. Four years later, Morgan receives amnesty and he and an old school friend, Kate Harrington, set up a legal consultancy. One evening when Morgan is walking home from work, an attempt is made to assassinate him. He survives and sets out to find his enemies with his outsized friend, Sam Cele and South African Police Detective Alfred Madonsela. All they can do is entice the enemy to make a mistake; a very dangerous tactic that could cost Morgan his life.
PHOENIX RESURRECTED The story of two abused teenagers, Garth Gilmore and Cindy Bedford, and their struggle to lead normal lives despite carrying the debilitating burden that their maltreatment has inflicted on them. A contest between love and indifference. Garth rejects the notion that he needs to change. His anger towards the world that he believes has rejected him leads him to scorn emotions such as compassion, and love and he resorts to gambling and crime. Cindy battles to come to terms with her past realising that her anger and hatred need to be replaced with love and empathy; a monumental task for such a young girl. Cindy's love for Garth is treated with indifference by him and her attempts to support him cost her dearly. She perseveres though, believing that love will always triumph over apathy. In desperation Cindy agrees to participate in Garth's criminal activities, the two are apprehended and detained until they reach adulthood and can be sentenced. During this time Cindy continues to whittle away at her affliction but it is only by a fortuitous acquaintance with a viciously abused old horse that Garth finally begins to come to terms with his past and becomes aware of his deep love for Cindy. Sentencing looms though.
