A collection of eight short stories, titled Escape the Stars, Blood Ink, Alone, Hansel and Gretel: A Retelling, Yellow, Darkness, Alley Cat Magic, and The Noise. "Escape the Stars" follows the fearsome captain, Lady Death, as she reflects on her past while leading the greatest armada in the known galaxies toward war against the corrupt sovereign corporation that murdered her family. "Blood Ink" follows Aila as she unravels the mystery surrounding the beautiful mind-fogging pen bequeathed to her by her late grandfather.
"Alone" centers around Clara as she leaves the relative safety of her home to hunt down the corrupt man who stole her sister years prior. "Hansel and Gretel" is a twist on the classic tale. Hans and Greta move to a new town following their father's new marriage. They must solve the mystery of their new home and the forest behind it before their stepmother has her way and before they are swallowed whole by the town's dark tales.
"Yellow" follows an unnamed woman through her downward spiral after a traumatic event. After the event she hides away, waiting to the right moment to flee. As the minutes tick away, the woman slowly loses her grip on reality, slipping into a state of mania and paranoia, awaiting the dawn.
"Darkness" follows Dave and his fellow survivors on their trek to a rumored safe haven in the new world they live in. After Earth is invaded and destroyed glowing beasts that devour light and heat, Dave and his crew must follow an unlikely, dimly lit path towards their salvation. They do not know if this safety is real or a false hope, but it is all they have.
"Alley Cat" follows an unnamed man as he goes about his daily life, noticing the strange and unnerving behavior of the local stray cats. After kicking a local stray cat, and repeatedly chasing off other local strays, the Man notices odd behavior in the feline community. What begins as a mystery for this man quickly spirals into fear as he is hounded by masses of felines, whose goal he cannot imagine.
The eighth, and final, tale "The Noise", follows Jane as she battles her own fears and mind. After moving into a new home, Jane discovers an unsettling scratching noise somewhere in her home that is driving her to the brink of insanity. She battles herself while following the noise to discover what has taken residence within her home.
