Legacy of Ghanaian Folklore

Beginning with folklore and oral storytelling and working through current written works, this book followed the development of Ghanaian literature. Here the emphasis is on analyzing the vibrant and productive legacy of Ghanaian authors. The manner in which myths, proverbs, and folktales-including the stories of Anansi the Spider-add to the intellectual and ethical underpinnings of Ghanaian society are investigated in this book. This book also examines in great detail the literary impulses of the colonial period and the post-independence age. Renowned writers such Kofi Awoonor, Ayi Kwei Armah, and Ama Ata Aidoo are members of these movements and have made major contributions.
