A young American man travels to Japan for a visit in the early 1980s. He falls in love with the country, and later with the whole region. He dates several wonderful young women, experiences exotic adventures, and works at numerous schools around the region. He feels so happy there that he remains for nearly four decades.. Eventually, though, he realizes that not only has he gotten older, but the entire region has changed. Unable to maintain the kind of lifestyle he got used to in the old days, he realizes it is time for him to go. Fortunately for him, he finds out he inherited a part of a property in Italy, the country of his ancestors.

He moves there, meets many people, and shows the locals that due to the skills he picked up in the far east, he can attract Asian visitors, benefitting their tourist-oriented businesses. He begins telling interesting stories from his youth in east Asia to curious locals. Being single and alone, he lives for his supportive friends, and revisits his exciting past through stories and memories.
