Winds of Captivity follows the tribulations of Zook, an enslaved African warrior from western Africa. Beginning with his capture by slave traders, Zook's struggles are chronicled as he is separated from his family and forced to endure the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and plantation life in Norton's Oak, South Carolina.

While held captive on the tobacco plantation of Daniel Wainwright, Zook adapts by befriending other slaves...and by planning how he can return to his family. Despite the possible consequences of rebellion and dangers of being a runaway, Zook concocts a suspenseful plan of vengeance and escape with the help of Vibia, the housekeeper of the Wainwright mansion. Through a deepening bond of friendship and loyalty, Zook and Vibia risk their very existence to achieve freedom.

If Zook and Vibia are able to execute their plan, dangers and challenges beyond the plantation will await them. And perhaps more concerning: Can Zook overcome any and all obstacles to reunite with his family?
