Matthew has returned to his Amish hometown in Lancaster after eschewing the lifestyle for the Englisch world. He is now a divorced single dad and has given up on women.

Ironically, Claire has returned to Lancaster herself. She, like Matthew, had left the town for the Englisch world. Now she is back, single and taking a teaching job.
